What is laughter therapy?

Laughter therapy basically involves performing a number of different laughter exercises to brighten the mood and make you feel healthier. The exercise can feel forced at first, but as you do them the laughter becomes genuine and by the end of a session you can feel quite tired but exuberant.

About us

Who we are We are three students at Glasgow School of Art who believe in the healing therapeutic power of laughter thanks to the teachings of Miles Bainbridge. We found about Miles Bainbridge last year while looking in to the history of the newly re-clad Seona Reid building and discovered that it had been a research and therapy centre in the 1980s. The Helios centre specialised in investigating SAD and utilising light and laughter therapy to improve the well being of individuals. After reading sections of his books "Happiness is Healing" and "Studies Into Symptoms and Therapeutic Solutions for Individuals Suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder" we decided to try a number of his different laughter exercises for a laugh. We were amazed how good we felt afterwards and started hosting laughter therapy workshops once a week. Now that we are back after the winter break we've decided to spread the joy of these workshops and are hoping to host a weekly laughter therapy workshop open to the public. If you would like to be kept up to date with workshops and would like to join in then feel free to send an email to lightandlaughterglasgow@gmail.com
